Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to all transportation services provided by Nexa Horse Transportation ("we", "us", "our") to the owner or agent of the horse(s) being transported ("you", "the client"). By submitting a booking request or using our services, you agree to these terms.

1. Bookings & Quotes

  • A booking request submitted through our website is not a confirmed booking. A booking is confirmed only when we confirm it with you directly.
  • Quotes are based on the information you provide (distance, number of horses, route and special requirements). If that information changes, the price may change.
  • The instant quote on our website is an automatic estimate only. Your price is not confirmed until Nexa Horse Transportation contacts you to confirm.
  • Pickup and delivery dates and times are estimates. Weather, road conditions, border delays and animal welfare needs can affect schedules.

2. Payment

  • A deposit may be required to confirm your booking. The remaining balance is due on or before delivery unless we agree otherwise in writing.
  • Prices are in Canadian dollars, per horse, per kilometre, plus GST. A minimum charge of $300 applies per trip.
  • Vet, border, government and customs broker fees are extra and are charged at cost.
  • Additional costs caused by delays at pickup or delivery, extra stops, layovers, or border inspection fees may be charged to the client.

3. Cancellations

  • Please give us as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.
  • Cancellations made less than 72 hours before scheduled pickup may forfeit the deposit.
  • If a horse is not ready, cannot be safely loaded, or is not fit to travel at pickup, the trip may be cancelled and charged as a late cancellation.
  • We may cancel or postpone a trip for safety reasons, including severe weather, road closures or vehicle issues. In that case we will reschedule or refund any deposit paid.

4. Health & Fitness to Travel

  • You confirm that each horse is healthy and fit for the planned journey. Horses that appear sick, injured or unfit to travel will not be loaded, in line with federal humane transport requirements.
  • You must tell us about any known health problems, injuries, behavioural issues, pregnancy, or special care needs before the trip.
  • We may ask for proof of vaccinations or a recent veterinary check.

5. Documents & Cross-Border Travel

  • The client is responsible for providing all required documents, which may include ownership papers or brand inspection, a valid Equine Infectious Anemia (Coggins) test, health certificates, and any import or export permits.
  • For travel between Canada and the US, documents must meet the requirements of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  • We are not responsible for delays, refused entry, quarantine or extra costs caused by missing, expired or incorrect documents.

6. Care During Transport

  • We will provide reasonable care, including regular checks, water and hay, and rest stops as needed for the length of the trip.
  • Please supply any feed, supplements or medication your horse needs, along with written instructions.
  • If a horse becomes ill or injured during transport, we will try to contact you. If we cannot reach you, you authorize us to arrange veterinary care at your expense.

7. Equipment

  • Horses should arrive at pickup with a properly fitting halter and lead rope. Shipping boots, wraps or blankets are at the client's discretion.
  • We are not responsible for loss of or damage to tack, equipment or personal items sent with the horse.

8. Liability

  • Transporting horses carries risks, including stress, illness and injury, even when every reasonable precaution is taken. You accept these risks.
  • We are not liable for illness, injury or death of a horse unless it results from our negligence.
  • We strongly recommend that you have your own equine mortality and medical insurance in place during transport.
  • Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount paid for the transport service in question.

9. Delivery

  • You must arrange for someone to receive the horse at the agreed delivery location and time.
  • If no one is available to receive the horse, we may arrange boarding nearby at your expense.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version posted on our website at the time of your booking will apply.
